Dengue Outbreak Spreads in Sri Lanka
Dengue Outbreak Reported in Sri Lanka: Over 5,000 Cases in January Alone. According to the National Dengue Control Unit, as of the first half of January, 5,829 individuals have been confirmed with dengue infections. The western region has the highest number of confirmed cases, with 1,956 individuals, while the northern region has seen 1,390 cases.
Last year, Sri Lanka reported a total of 88,398 dengue cases, resulting in 57 deaths. To curb the spread of the disease, the Ministry of Health declared a nationwide Dengue Prevention Week at the beginning of January.
